Transfer Station Information

The Transfer Station is located at 59 Old Forge Road. See the attendants for residential verification - driver’s license, vehicle registration, or recent utility bill. The transfer station is for residents only, NO CONTRACTORS.

Winter Hours - December 27th, 2025, through March 7th, 2026

Saturdays - 7:00 am-1:00 pm

Summer Hours - March 12th, 2026, thru December 19th, 2026

Thursdays/Fridays - 7:00 am-2:00 pm, Saturdays - 7:00 am-1:00 pm

NOTE: The Public Works Director may close the Transfer Station in inclement weather, i.e. thunder/lightning, heavy snow or rain, or hurricane.  If in doubt, call 860-258-2766 on the Friday before the expected weather event before 4:30 p.m.

General list of items allowed at the Transfer Station:

Brush, leaves, grass, computers, TVs, electronics, CDs, tapes, paint (latex only), tires, 20lb empty propane tanks, furniture, mattresses, scrap metal, household trash, tag sale items, and any recycling material. See the Recycling at The Transfer Station Guide (PDF).

List of items NOT permitted at the Transfer Station:

Hazardous waste/chemicals (see list below), sheetrock, ceramic tile, roofing materials, concrete, stone, and dirt.

Hazardous Waste/Chemicals - brake fluid, gasoline, mercury thermostats or thermometers, paint strippers/thinners, rechargeable batteries, turpentine, aerosol cans, ammonia, disinfectants, drain cleaners, floor care products, oven cleaners, polishes, adhesives, epoxy products, and glues, artists paints, cleaning solvents, fungicides, herbicides, insecticides and pesticides, mercury, mothballs, pool chemicals, driveway sealer, and roofing tar. These can be brought to the MDC Hazardous Waste Collection Day for member towns. PLEASE NOTE:   Due to the limited size of the Transfer Station, the number of trips made on Friday afternoon and Saturday may be restricted to one pickup load per resident.      

NO COMMERCIAL LANDSCAPING VEHICLES ARE ALLOWED INTO THE TRANSFER STATION OR PIT AREA PER DEEP REGULATIONS.
